First Night in the RV!

Yesterday was a very busy day, spent doing errands around town and getting supplies for starting the intimidating task of fixing up the vehicle, as well as making it home. Fortunately, back when we were about to lose our housing seven months ago, we were able to prepare by renting a storage unit, which means we have a lot of what we need to live in this thing comfortably…as soon as one of us remembers where the key is.

The heat wave remains one of the most difficult aspects of this whole experience. Constant exposure to the temperatures we’ve been getting here is a detriment to human health, and every person in my pod of four regularly suffers symptoms of heat exhaustion. Therefore, cooling the vehicle is a top priority. I am lucky to be homeless alongside some very smart people with access to the local maker space. Imminent projects include passive cooling with a specially prepared high albedo paint, as well as building a swamp cooler. I’m ecstatic to see how this all comes together and deeply appreciative and affectionate for the “crew” of close friends I’m going through this with.

Is it stable housing? No, though it is an improvement. But I think because of the people I’m with, and through our collaborative efforts, it can be home.
